Level 1 - Water Introduction
30 min class

This class is an introduction to group swim lessons for swimmers ages 6-8 who may be new to swim lessons. The goal is to gain confidence and begin to learn basic water skills.  This class is best for swimmers who are new to flotation devices (not being able to touch the bottom) or swimmers that are anxious.  Skills that will be addressed in this class will be floating and gliding on both the stomach and the back, blowing bubbles and working on submerging the face, jumping with assistance, and entering and exiting the water independently.  Water safety, dealing with fears and anxieties around water, and establishing basic skills to improve swimming endurance are the primary focus of this class.

Level 2 - Water Exploration
30 min class

Swimmers in the class should have mastered the skills in Level 1 including blowing bubbles, floating on both stomach and back with assistance, jumping with assistance, and entering and exiting the water independently.  The main focus of this class is to progress to submerging their face in the water, jumping independently, completing a front and back float with assistance.  In addition to working to build swimming strength and comfort, swimmers will explore how their body moves in the water and we will distinguish between “running” (survival swimming) and kicking (forward positioning).  By the end of the class, swimmers should be able to submerge their face comfortably and blow bubbles, work on rolling and changing direction, and show and understanding of how to adjust their arm and leg motion to move in the water.  While floatation may still be used in this class to aid in learning new skills, much of this class will focus on removing flotation to glide, float, tread water, and swim distances of 10-15yds on both the front and back without assistance.  Rotary breathing may be introduced in this class depending on the comfort level of properly inhaling and exhaling by class participants.

Level 3 - Water Discovery
30 min class

Once swimmers master the skills in level 2, the instructors will begin working on building strength, coordination, and movement on both the front and the back.  Swimmers at this level should have little to no dependency on floatation aids and should be strong and comfortable enough to swim short distances without any assistance (may continue to use floatation devices so that swimmers can concentrate on learning more advanced skills).  Proper breathing and mastering rotary breathing will be a primary focus of this level.  By the completion of this level, swimmers should be able to float on their back unassisted, glide on their front while blowing bubbles and transition into crawl stroke with rotary breathing, swim comfortably and calmly for distances (15-25yds) on both their front (crawl stroke) and back (backstroke), submerge underwater both head first and feet first, retrieve items under water, do both sitting and kneeling dives.

Level 4 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
30 min class

Swimmers in this class will advance their skills learned in our Level 3 programming.  Swimmers will continue to work on refining the over-the-water pull and rotary breathing in crawl stroke and improve strength in backstroke.  Class participants will also be introduced to elementary backstroke (safety swimming and preliminary skills to learn breaststroke), treading water for extended time (20-30 sec), dolphin kick (preliminary skills to learn butterfly), and increasing confidence and skill with both sitting and kneeling dives.  Swimmers should not register for this class unless they have proven that they can maintain rotary breathing for extended distances (15-25yds).  Swimmers will be challenged with learning how to swim underwater for extended distances, retrieving items underwater, swimming extended distances, and beginning to combine skills to prepare to learn all 4 competitive strokes.

Level 5 - Competitive Stroke Development
Swimmer to Instructor Ratio 7:1
 | 45 min class

In addition to continuing to improve endurance and proficiency at the skills learned in Level 4, swimmers in level 5 will be introduced to both breaststroke and butterfly.  Breaststroke will be taught through a progression from elementary backstroke.  Drills and stroke deconstruction will be used so swimmers can learn the correct motions of each of the 4 competitive strokes. The ability to do proper push-offs/ streamlines into each competitive stroke and be able to complete each stroke properly for at least 15yds will be accomplished at this level.  Swimmers will also learn standing dives into streamlines.

Level 6 - Intro to Swim Team
Swimmer to Instructor Ratio 10:1 | 45 min class

All 4 competitive strokes must be able to be completed for a minimum of 15yds with proper technique to be eligible to register for this class.  Level 6 will work on refining the 4 competitive strokes, learning how to swim at increased speed at each stroke, and will learn proper competitive starts (racing starts) and turns (flip turns and open turns).  The goal of this class is to be able to improve understanding, coordination, and endurance in each of the 4 strokes so that swimmers can swim extended distances to prepare to be part of the Developmental Swim Teams or other competitive swim programs.  Instructors will primarily be out of the water to teach this class.
