Keep Your Workouts Going Strong throughout the Summer

Summer Motivation

Beverly Birnbach, Cedardale Andover Wellness Coach

The summer is the best time of the year! In New England we don’t get much of this nice weather, so from June to Sept we take full advantage. BBQs every weekend, summer weddings and any excuse to be in the sunshine can take priority over your workouts. While that might be tempting, you have to remember that with the nice weather comes the bathing suits, shorts and bare skin. And no one wants to be timid or shy about their body. So below are some strategies to keep your workouts going strong while enjoy the best time of the year!

Fit in your workouts no matter what

Schedule your workouts in your calendar like they are appointments. Take some time on Sunday to look at your whole week and plan ahead. You normally workout on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, but this week you have a BBQ on Saturday. Guess what, you better be in here on Sunday instead!

Social media

These days social media is full of tempting food videos! All of the Buzzfeed and Tasty videos could make anyone forget about their fitness goals in a minute. So instead of scrolling through tempting videos, scroll through inspirational ones. Some great pages to follow are Cooking Light, Skinny Taste, Eating Well, Men’s/Women’s Fitness Magazine, PopSugar Fitness and Blogilates.

Surround yourself with like-minded people

Start spending more time with friends that are physically active. Have a friend that usually does yoga on Sunday mornings? Why not go with her and go to a light lunch afterwards? Impressed by another tennis player’s serve? Introduce yourself! Maybe you can start a weekly tennis game together.

Set a summer goal

Set a goal for the summer and hold yourself to it! Make your goal measurable, realistic and have a due date. You say you want to lose weight - well, how much? By what date? This gives you something to measure and keep track of.

Schedule a pre and post summer consultation

This is the best way to hold yourself accountable for the goals you set for yourself. It is really easy to make up excuses for yourself. As your Wellness Coach I will help you set up your goal(s) and stick with it! Call me at 978-373-1596 opt 1 or email at [email protected]

 Variety

Variety is the spice of life. Make sure you are doing a variety of workouts so you don’t get bored. With the nice weather here, take advantage. Do one of your workouts outdoors like walking on the beach or going for a hike in addition to your strength training or spinning classes.

Start working with a trainer

There is no better thing to guarantee that you will fit in your workouts. Not only do you pay for them, you have someone waiting for you to show up. Blowing your appointment off is not an option and giving it your all when you’re here is the only option. Your trainer will not let you quit on yourself!

Buy a MyZone belt

MyZone is Cedardale’s heart rate monitoring service for your workouts. We have TV’s in the group exercise studios and fitness floors that will show you exactly how much effort you are putting into your workouts. The different heart rate zones (70-80% etc) are color coded and indicate your effort. You can also download the app that allows you to see your workouts in a calendar view. You can see exactly how many workouts you’ve done and if you’ve kept up with them.
